Update from the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial Inc.
As noted in last month’s edition of the Dispatcher, the Ride of Remembrance for 2013 was cancelled. The WSFM plans to continue the ride tradition next year. Details will be listed on the WSFM website and on our Facebook page. Watch for the updates.
Since the announcement of this year’s Ride of Remembrance cancellation, two separate organizations connected with the Fire Service, have approached the WSFM Board of Directors and announced that they plan on continuing the Ride of Remembrance tradition with their own rides to the Memorial. One ride will commence from northern Wisconsin and is hosted by the “Red Knights International Firefighters Motorcycle Club” (RKMC) and the second ride, hosted by the Brew City F.O.O.L.S. (Fraternal Order Of Leatherhead Society, a group dedicated to firefighter training and preserving Duty, Pride and Tradition in the Fire Service), will commence from the Milwaukee area with both ride routes terminating at the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial Park. Although the WSFM, Inc. is not sponsoring either ride, we commend both organizations for their efforts to honor those who have died while engaged in fire service activities in the State of Wisconsin by riding to support the mission of the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial.
Below you will find information regarding both rides that was provided to the WSFM, Inc. Please consider supporting the efforts of these two fine organizations.
PRESS RELEASE FROM THE RED KNIGHTS INTERNATIONAL MOTORCYCLE CLUB
A day to remember those that have gone before us!
“The Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial is something to be proud of” says Monty Timm of the Red Knights Firefighters Motorcycle club. We sponsor a ride every year to remember our fallen brothers, and to always remember those that have given the ultimate sacrifice.
This year we have a special ride, we are going to ride to the Memorial! The ride starts in Tomahawk at Lincoln County Cycles located right off of Hwy 51 & hwy 86, exit 229, right on Comfort Dr. to Lincoln County Cycles. We will be leaving at 10:30 AM, stopping at the Rib Lake Fire Dept. for lunch, then on to the Colby Fire Dept. for water, gas, and to remember fallen FF and Brother Jamison Kampmeyer, then to the Memorial for the final presentation, and a meal to close out the ride.
The Red Knights Firefighters Motorcycle Club is an organization composed exclusively of Firefighters dedicated to promoting motorcycle safety and fellowship among firefighters who ride motorcycles.
Every year approximately one hundred firefighters die in the line of duty in the United States. The Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial Park, located in Wisconsin Rapids, provides a unique and lasting way to pay tribute to firefighters from the State of Wisconsin who have made this ultimate sacrifice while in service to their communities.
The Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial Park provides a natural and scenic setting to house a memorial to our firefighting heroes from across this great State of Wisconsin. The serenity of the setting allows park visitors to be alone with their thoughts and emotions and at the same time realize that their loved one will never be forgotten.
We sincerely thank you for helping us with our endeavor and strongly encourage you, if in Wisconsin Rapids, to stop at the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial Park and honor these heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice to help their fellow Wisconsinites.
The ride is open to any and all who wish to help us support our Fallen Firefighters and Emergency personnel by attending. More information will be available at our website www.rkwi5.com, or follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com / ride for the Memorial
