Line of Duty Death

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

It is with great sadness that I inform you that on Sunday April 28, 2013 at 0146 hrs David “Coop” Cooper passed away while surrounded by his loving family and caregivers.  David returned home after his shift on March 8, 2013 and finalized his planned retirement date of July 1, 2013 with his wife Laurie.  Five hours later David suffered a heart attack and spent his last 50 days battling Metastatic Angiosarcoma, an extremely aggressive cancer that attacked his lungs and heart.  David fought bravely to the end.  Visitation and funeral details will be distributed as soon as they are finalized.

The visitation on Thursday May 2nd will be held at the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home, 6019 Seventh Ave. Kenosha, WI 53143.  Uniformed Personnel should meet at 1815 hrs in front of the funeral home for a Fire Department walk through at 1830 hours.

Please see the attached document for apparatus staging information for the funeral on Friday May 3rd.  When choosing apparatus to send to the processional, keep in mind that there is a bridge on 60th St. at 13th Ave. that has a limited clearance of 12’ 8”.

Please have all vehicles that will be in the processional to the staging area at 0845 hrs on May 3rd.

You can take an active role to assist with the elimination of the mortgage for the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial Visitor Center by designating a portion of your Wisconsin State Income Tax return as a tax deductible contribution to the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial.

The Wisconsin State Tax Form allows anyone from the State of Wisconsin to make a donation to the WSFM by simply checking the box on the last page of your tax form. If you complete your own tax forms ,by checking this box and designating what amount you would like to donate to the WSFM, this amount will be deducted from your tax refund or be added to what you owe in taxes. If someone else prepares your taxes, please advise them that you would like to make a donation to the WSFM in an amount you choose. All donations to the WSFM are tax-deductible and are used for the maintenance of this beautiful State Memorial.
